DIETER WULFHORSTCellist Dieter Wulfhorst has extensively performed in the United States, Canada, Mexico, Europe, Asia, and Australia as soloist, chamber musician, and orchestral performer. This season’s concert engagements include chamber music concerts in Europe and the United States in addition to solo appearances including Beethoven’s Triple Concerto. He is on the music faculty at Fresno Pacific University. His recordings include cello duets by Jacques Offenbach with Jürgen Wolf; a compilation of chamber works including Bruch’s Kol Nidrei and Ernest Bloch’s Three Nocturnes for Piano Trio with pianist Norman Krieger and violinist Susan Doering; tangos by Astor Piazzolla and compositions by Haydn and Mozart with Santa Fe Pro Musica; and compositions by Thomas Bramel (including When Angels Hear of Divorce for solo ‘cello and tape). Wulfhorst has been in the U.S. since 1985, and received the degree of Doctor of Musical Arts in 1995 from the University of Maryland at College Park. GEORGE WARRENComposer, pianist, music critic and educator, George Warren has maintained a steady stream of activity in the interest of keeping music, both new and old, alive and well in the city of Fresno and beyond. Premieres in 2007 include the Concerto for Didgeridoo and Orchestra in Reno, and Music for Didgeridoo and Piano Quintet in Prague, Czech Republic. Other key works that have met with critical success include California Chronicles, commissioned and premiered by the Fresno Philharmonic Orchestra in honor of its 50th anniversary; The Meaning of Is, commissioned and premiered by the Helix! sextet in New Jersey; Two Movements for Vibraphone and Piano; and Songs of Experience, which premiered at the Lincoln Center in New York by an ad hoc sextet with soprano conducted by the composer. Warren also has maintained an active career as an educator, teaching at Rutgers University and William Paterson University in New Jersey, California State University, Fresno, private studio teaching, and currently directing the music program at Hallmark Charter School in Fresno and Monterey counties. Further, Warren has been the classical music critic at the Fresno Bee for over 10 years. He received the Ph.D. in composition and theory in 1998, studying under the acclaimed composer Charles Wuorinen. |
